It's a little bit of this and a little bit of that! Never too late to become alligator bait. In memory of mother, who was always there for me.

Scientists at Harvard Medical School analyzed data on vitamin K intake and bone health in more than 70,000 women. Those with the highest dietary intake of vitamin K had a 30 percent decreased risk for hip fracture compared with those who had the lowest intake.

The question to be asked is how much. Current research is being conducted at the University of Toronto to find out.

Could a great source of Vitamin K prevented Mother from having to become wheelchair bound, due to advanced osteoporosis?

Is it possible that knowing the correct amount of Vitamin K can prevent osteoporosis along with consuming just the right foods? Well, only time will tell.

The best dietary source of Vitamin K is green, leafy vegetables. If one does not have a taste for kale or spinach, try one-half cup of broccoli sauted in olive oil. Or, one could try a lettuce salad, (using any type except iceberg) with a teaspoon of salad dressing that contains vegetable oil. Some fat is needed for absorption of vitamin K.

Among vegetable oils, the richest sources of vitamin K (per two-tablespoon serving) are soybean oil (50 mcg) and olive oil (13 mcg.)

Now, what about supplements? I guess I am big on supplements, because I use them. I do not use a Vitamin K supplement, because I get what I need from a daily supplement of spirulina along with fish oil tablets. In addition, I take a supplement for niacin.
